HaPPy HaLLowEEn hERE Too

Happy Halloween...

Well we won't waste time with lots of apologies, anyone who's a little sensitive can view the apologies over on the Webtide post that just manifested in glorious black and white ... well mostly.

Since there hasn't been much happening here I figured that Halloween seemed to be a good time to make a post if only to let the search engines know that we still exist, and we do, exist that is, in a kind of digital zombie way, you know?

Must away to scare the pants off some victims. Hoping to get set up up here as soon as work pressure and exhumations permit.

Introduction to exploring Blogger

'Or-right, 'or-right, what's goin' on 'ere?

Not effen guilty yer 'onour...

Having commenced a blog at webtide I had decided to explore Blogger dot com and see what could be done to edit the Blogger.com blog to make it both prettier and more functional, however, that in itself is of very little interest to you but what may be of interest to you is that I intend to share my explorations (blog-explore or maybe blogporations, hmm; surely I jest), and blog about them as we create them right here before our eyes. Oh yeah, you can go get a free template, or just Google blogger free template if those aren't enough; by the way, the Google search string in the previous link contains reference to the fact that I used Mozilla Firefox to initiate the search, that's because Firefox is my fave browser, so if you use Opera, or, dare I say Chrome, or some other nefarious browser just Google the term blogger free templates. Nevertheless, if you're a little adventurous, just looking to see what can be done and don't care if we fcuk it up, then read on intrepid reader...

My idea is to write a web log of all the things I find out about Blogger as Blogger isn't half the blog that some other blogs can be. So I do the research and see what we can do with Blogger whilst you get to share the benefits.

Wait a cotton-pickin' minute...

If Blogger isn't half the blog that some others are then WHY USE BLOGGER AT ALL?????

Good question. Blogger is closely associated with the good god Google. Ah! Now you're beginning to make some sense. So if we can get Blogger to do half of what Wordpress can do then we are beginning to get somewhere, after all one sees some pretty remarkable stuff on blogs. Well maybe some of it is because those blogs are hosted on an individual person's server so they have the ability to do more.

I thought of that....

AND, I've decided that if we need to (and you know that we will need to) store external files somewhere we'll just set up a free website where we can host useful files at say Yahoo Geocities or the like.

Begin at the beginning....

So who the hell (or heaven) am I?...

As a web professional in charge of Tweed Web Design (Managing Designer), a quick look at my Tweed Web Design qualifications page reveals that I have a fair bit of experience regarding the technical side of the internet, probably a bit more than the average person, I mean who else would write a blog like this one? Furthermore, this year (2008) I have been studying for a diploma of Web Development at Kingscliff TAFE in Australia. First semester results were all distinctions, although I've discontinued a fair swag of the second semester modules due to the fact that they and I are heading in differing directions.

Enough is enough...

OK so that's probably enough for now, but I will leave you with a few tidbits such as the fact that I currently have within my peripheral vision a book by Todd Stauffer (yes, good old Todd, author of an immense number of IT books). The book? It's called "How to do Everything with your Web 2.0 Blog". Seems like a fitting start to exploring Blogger.

But Wait...

One very useful function seems to have been overlooked by Blogger, and that function is the categories function. Todd's book contains numerous enteries in the index pertaining to three other blog CMS's (Content Management Systems of which Blogger is one) but none relating to Blogger, so it appears that we are going to begin by researching how to set up catergories in Blogger. Let's hope it's possible because we want to run this blog out of the webtide blog, and later if time and inclination become available we may wish to include more "categories" in our uncategorical Blogger blog.

T's all for now...
